Oh, what an exquisite rarity. I thought I was familiar with this symphony from my numerous recordings (even Liszt's piano transcription) but this is a fresh ray of light. The performance is simply stunning and the authentic instruments sound great.

    Thank you, Rod.

And yet it is never performed, hardly ever recorded - even in complete Beethoven trio CD sets. Not in the repertoire at all really. Quite bizarre.

Superb. I though it was an excellent performance and of course a wonderful arrangement of the original movement. I noticed only a very slight lag in tempo at one point near the end of the development section, but not a problem at all really. Thanks for posting it, Rod. It was great to hear. The symphony in this form would certainly make a great chamber music concert item.

Some time ago here I mentioned a young boy of six, son of a friend of mine, who listened to classical music enthusiastically and could name several composers by their styles when hearing a new piece without knowing who is was by. Also he enthusiastically played any toy instrument he could get. His parents have finally listened to my pleadings to get him piano lessons and now at 7 he is progressing very well. I make CDs for him to give him new things to hear. I'm planning now to make him a new CD which will include this movement in trio form alongside the original version by full orchestra.

OK Chaszz, you gave the correct response, you've kept the 'dark thoughts' at bay, for a little while at least.

About the boy it is interesting concerning his ability to identify the various composers' styles, perhaps the 'historians' here should take heed of it.

Indeed... Maybe we can learn something from him.

Do not hold the term 'we' in too wide a scope NK. Some of us already know the score in this respect.

I've just heard the first novement. Love it too. It's terrific !

Wonder if Rod will bow under pressure and give us the lovely second movement ? (Ha !).

                          I just adore this symphony.

To me it seems impossible that the lovely atmospheric second movement would not be dimished significantly by losing its elegaic orchestration. Still, it would be interesting to judge for ourselves, if....

Sorry but I really don't know. And I don't know what happened. I can't read your thoughts.
