    Classical Music Not Dying

Apple recently reported that downloads for classical music from its Itunes music service were 12% of total downloads. This far exceeds the 4% total sales reported for classical music records in the 1980s. Thus the music is picking up new fans and not dying. What may be dying is live performance. I paid $49 last night for a good seat at a classical concert -- I could have gotten almost 10 Naxos CDs for this money, and I certainly find recorded music about as thrilling as live music. Except for live opera, where, if a good production, the theatre space, sets, lighting, color, etc. provide a total experience far outwighing even a good DVD, let alone a CD.

May I ask, Chaszz, what performance did you attend?

Joy, see the other thread I began today, "An 'Authentic' Performance", for a review of it.
