    -=MP3s INSIDE=- Bruggen and Beethoven

Sorry Rod, I decided to start a new, since that one had only me and you posting

I'm uploading bits of the symphonies with Frans Brüggen and the Orchestra of the 18th Century.
    So far I've uploaded:
The Finale of the First and Coriolanus
    The rest is coming soon.

    "Wer ein holdes weib errugen..."
    "Wer ein holdes Weib errungen..."

"My religion is the one in which Haydn is pope." - by me .

"Set a course, take it slow, make it happen."

I believe his 3rd is of the best I ever heard, pairing down with Savall's, but with a better Marcia Funebre. This is, IMO, the best Marcia I've heard, hands down.

So far I've only had time to listen to Coriolanus and the 5th - enjoyed them immensely, thank you.

I've been listening to this veritable avalanche of music (but don't make a habit of uploading this much, I deliberately restricted myself because technically what we are doing is, er, less than wholely legal).

To those not familiar with period instrument performances this will sound somewhat new, though not as new as it could be due to the lame sound. Also I get the impression that these performances are a little too mannered compared to what I was expecting (and where are the horns!?). His more recent recordings of Creatures of Prometheus and the Violin Concerto (the best you can currently get for these works) have more fire in them than these symphonies, and the sound is better balanced.

I think Saval's recording of the 3rd is better from what I've heard here, and he uses an even smaller orchestra, and the sound quality is light years better also.

I'm listening to the last movement of the 1st as d'l'd. Would I be alone in thinking that the interpretation used for this performance is what would be applied to the mature composer some 20 years later, rather than to the novice symphony composer still stuck somewhat in the Mozartian reference framework and attempting to break that mold?

Well Beethoven wasn't exactly a boy when he published his first symphonic effort. Were you expecting a more dainty rendition of this piece?
