Just for the sake of historical accuracy -
1792 Beethoven leaves Bonn for Vienna
1794 Invading French Revolutionary troops occupy most of the Rhineland. The Elector of Cologne/Bonn, Max Franz, is forced to close the Bonn Chapel, to remove its music archives, and flees. Kapellmeister Luchesi stays in Bonn, already married locally.
1794/5 French troops occupy left bank of the Rhine. A Peace Treaty is signed at Basel. Prussia now cedes her territories on the west bank of the Rhine.
1796 Still not official rule of Bonn by the French. The city is in administrative limbo but a strong pro-Catholic party is forming which hopes to rule the city in negotiations with Napoleon.
1797 (28th August) Pro-Catholic party headed by Joseph Goerres and his future father in law declare a republic covering all the territory of the German left bank of the Rhine - this to become known to historians as the 'Cisrhenian' Republic. That same day they fly a specially designed tricolour flag of the 'Cisrehnian' Republic and later go to Paris.
1797 (November) The Pro-Catholic 'Cisrehnian Republic' (only 3 months old) is taken under direct Napoleonic administration.
1801 Napoleon/Vatican Concordat of co-operation
1801 Death in Bonn of Kapellmeister Luchesi after 20 years service (age 60). Unknown whether his death is commemorated.
1802 (23rd September) Bonn formally added to the Napoleonic Empire
1814 Defeat of Napoleon leads to restoration of Bonn
Note - The 'Catholic Encyclopaedia' (New Advent) documents the life and career of Joseph Goerres (1776-1848). But it strangely fails to mention that Goerres was head of the above mentioned 'Cisrhenian Republic' during its 3 month rule of Bonn and other areas.

Beethoven - ja! Ein Mann der Integrität in einem Alter der Heuchelei
