Happy Valentine's Day!

Since it’s the day of love I was wondering which Beethoven piece do you find most romantic? I, personally, think The Pathetique Opus 13, 2nd movement, is one which moves me the most. Words to describe it would be moving, love and tender IMO. Someone once even dubbed it with the name ’More Than Love’. Rather fitting I think.

baaahh joy..I was just going to say Pathetique 2nd movement. That's unbelievably romantic, poetic, full of emotion, fantastic. And moonlight sonata of course but that's more the heartache version..so not particulary for valentine's day :-/
And several parts of 9th Symphony, pure joy, really, some parts are so moving-it's just wow, I get the slight feeling the orchestra in the church at my wedding will play beethoven only.

Well, Joy, perhaps as you describe, though there is the slow movement from the 2nd Symphony. What music speaks more of being happy to be alive and fulfilled than the slow movement from Beethoven's 2nd symphony ? It's masterful and is followed by equally amazing ideas. So, (although it's really tough to decide) I would describe that slow movement of the 2nd as 'fulfilled longing' though there are of course many others full of longing.

Ever hear the Romance for Violin and Orchestra No. 2 in F Op. 50? *That* is romantic.

I also say the Piano Sonata No. 24 is romantic, the one Beethoven felt was better than moonlight (I disagree with that, though).

That reminds me, I due to get married myself in May, I almost forgot.

I don't recall a wedding march from Beethoven, what the heck, the march from Fidelio will do (perhaps it is more appropriate!).

I was allowed to select one piece of music for my daughter's wedding a few years ago, and I chose Tschaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Waltz (I'm a sucker for Disney).

I particularly love the slow movement from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and also, I find the Adagio from his Piano Concerto No. 5 to be very moving...even though we have all heard this piece so many times, it still gets to me.

oh ehm I didn't mean I am getting married-just in case I AM getting married one day (I'm 19, still some time to go). I was just thinking about my possible wedding because we had 3 weddings in our orchestra last year and all three were held in our huge baroque church accompanied by the entire orchestra and organ. The orchestra will play what you want them to play so yeah..mine will be a beethoven wedding :-)
