A very good rendition here and the piano is superb. The 'trio' section of the march is played quicker here than in other recordings I have (where it is played much slower than the primary tempo) but I see no indication from Beethoven of a slower tempo variation for this section. Can anyone with the score confirm this?

No, there is no indication of a tempo change in the score (in my Urtext edition, anyway).

Thanks for this, Rod. Superb playing, and - I agree - this Graf is great! I love the central section in the march movement, as you say much quicker than normal and so it should be. This section has always reminded me of Bach (apologies!) and at this tempo it certainly brings out that Baroque quality, such an important aspect of his later style. At least, that's how it seems to me!

The whole movement at c.144 is actually taken quicker than standard march tempo 120.

The tempo seems fine to me in this performance of the march.

I though I would use this thread to post a free link to the whole 4th pianoconcerto of Beethoven performed on a fortepiano by jos van immerseel and the Anima Eterna Orchestra, although the tempi aren't as lively as I'd like them to be, the fact that it is played on a fortepiano does make it a nice experience, they also perform his 5th symphony.

ow I sure did Rod, and I must confess his rendition was 10 times better...but you could only provide us *understandably* with the 1st movement.so I thought the whole concerto free and legally would be quite nice aswell.
