I don't hate you, I think Schumann is a fine choice. I particularly like his 4th Symphony in D minor in which all four mm's are played without a pause deeming it his one movement symphony.

My choices for the top three would be:
    1) Beethoven
    2) Bach
    3) Mozart

      So that makes:

      1) Schubert

      ...a whole lot of nothing...

      2) Schumann
      3) Beethoven

Not far behind are Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Dvorák and Tchaikovsky. But I think that's given. Your top-3s?
Limburg hoort er zeer zeker nog net bij ben ik bang..

      uhm..my top 3..difficult
      I should say:
      1:Beethoven.
      2:Bach
      3:Chopin

Beethoven, the sheer power of his music says it all.
Bach, for his polyphonic masterpieces which taunt me as a pianoplayer yet are techniques every pianoplayer should master.
Chopin: for making the piano an instrument of pure poetry.

        For me it's:
        1) Beethoven & Schubert
        3) Bach, Händel, Mozart, Haydn & Mendelssohn
        8) Cherubini, Schumann, Brahms, Bruckner & Wagner

Does it tell that I have a thing for the germans?
In spite of the numbers, the second and third positions come quite close, only Beethoven and Schubert I regard as THAT WAY UP.

Schumann is an excellent choice!! I have the highest regard for him both as man and musician. I can't really pick out a top three, but after Beethoven I think very highly of Tschaikowsky and Bruckner with a bunch of other composers at equal or close behind.
