    1805, May 9 ~ Death of Friedrich von Schiller, at Weimar, Germany.

    I wonder how LvB reacted when he learned of this. Schiller was aged 46, and had already by the 1790's struck some heavy chords to LvB's world views. Perhaps LvB's didn't felt as attracted to Schiller's later writings as to those poems and plays he had read while in Bonn. Don Carlos seems to have been his favourite play besides Shakespeare's Tempest and Goethe's Faust. / G.

    I wonder why we didn't have a Beethoven Don Carlos instead of having to wait for Verdi?
