Well the generally accepted date for the composition of Fur Elise is 1810, though it may possibly be 1808.

The piece was written for a female friend of LvB's, with all likeliness Therese von Brunsvyk, whom I believe was given the autograph score (=fair copy) as a gift [about 1810?]. The piece was not performed in public. In any event certainly not by LvB himself.
Yet in later life, 1822, LvB had the work revised for inclusion in a planned set of bagatelles which apparently was to be published by Peters. Peters took to other works of his on this occasion; thence the set was never brought to completion. / G.Comment
