1736 -- Austrian composer and organist and one time teacher of Hummel and Beethoven Johann Albrechtsberger is born near Vienna.

1809 -- Composer Felix Mendelssohn is born in Hamburg.

One day when Mendelssohn was visiting Goethe,
the old and dying poet complained that he had trouble understanding the 'new music'and so to amuse him Mendelssohn sat at the piano and gave a 'history' of music playing examples from early to the modern showing Goethe what had influenced the different styles.I don't know if Goethe mind was changed about the new music,but I for one would liked to have been there to hear this music lesson.
