      Amalie,
Yep, that's me! I knew opera was good for something! That trumpet disk sounds interesting. That really was the golden age of trumpeting, the lads even had a guild! Naxos also have a similar disk of trompone music that I would like to find. It appears to be OOP, which is unusual for them. Well, they do come up with plenty that no one else thinks to do.

For me, it is the Sonata in C major for Piano - #4 - Op 38 - Nazerl (B's nickname for him!) Hummel. If there is one thing Hummel excelled at it was solo piano music. And his later sonatas (he wrote 6 for sure and 3 others that are likely his from earlier times) are pretty fine.

Nice pic!! A bit idealized, but really a nicer effort than most. How odd that I hadn't seen that before. Wonder what the origin is. Oh well, it is mine now!

I just opened the first time a nice Brilliant 2CD 'Schubert - Complete works for Violin & Piano'
          Jaimi Laredo - Violin
          Stephanie Brown - Piano
Lovely Sonatinas, actually D.385 in A minor.

            Pastrl,
Nightowl indeed! I hope to be snug, all safe in my bed at 2 AM! Lovely music for that time of the morning though. I didn't know Jaime Laredo played the fiddle too. He is a very good violist, I thought that was all he did. Franzrl certainly wrote some lovely sonatinas though, yes? And maybe also you will like the Fantasia in C, hard piece to beat, day OR night!

For me, it is the Flute Quartets of Amadé, played by James Galway with most of the Tokyo Quartet. Given how much Wolfrl claimed to dislike the flute, he certainly wrote some nice music for it. Adios a mañana, mi amigos!

I am listening to 3 violin concerti by Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1739-1799). Incredibly virtuosic works for the fiddler, they must have been nearly unplayable to many violinists of the time, and serve to distinguish what a truly fine fiddler he must have been. Also a prominent conductor, he conducted the Paris World Premieres of the 6 Paris Symphonies of Haydn. And music was just a hobby, he was a professional soldier!

Merry Christmas to one and all.
