            Pastrl,
Yes, broken modems are a real problem for the dedicated poster! I am certainly pleased that MY modem is not broken anymore, because the 2 weeks + that I have not been able to read the board from home have been an ordeal for me!
Right now I am listening to the Incidental Music from Goethe's Egmont played by the BPO/Karajan. This was a Christmas gift from a dear friend which I received today and opened early Life has suddenly gotten good again!

After some committed Chopin listening, I'm again in baroque mode (back to bach)

English suites (BWV 806-8011) and late Haydn piano sonatas on the hands of Gould.

Incidentally... the main theme of the appassionata is on the second half of the first movement of the Haydn piano sonata no. 49, isn't it?

Yesterday I listened to the hammerklavier sonata with some regularity the last weeks (I converted my cd to mp3 and stored it on my pocket pc so when I travel, I listen to it) and is growing very strong in me. What a brilliant and majestic piece of music.

In keeping with the Holiday Season my classical radio station has been playing some beautiful traditional Christmas carols. This morning it was "God Rest you Merry, Gentlemen" Samuel Wesley with Ian Hobson, piano also "Il est ne, le divin enfant" (He is born)with the Vienna Choir Boys, "I Wonder as I Wander" John Jacob Niles and the Eaken Trio Orchestra, and "We Three Kings"

My, we are all so quiet today! Hope we are listening anyway, too much hectic activity takes all the Peace out of the Holiday, which is against all the rules!
Well, I am listening, for sure! Right now, it is the Divertimento in D major - #17 - K 334 (320b) - Amadé Mozart. One of the great works of the pre-Vienna years, with a minuet and trio that is one of the most familiar little pieces you are likely to run across that you can't quite put your finger on! Hope you all have a pleasant evening, especially you, Joy, with your lovely Christmas music, and are all a tad more loquacious tomorrow!

                            Amalie,
Ah, some of my favorites! I have been looking for a biography of "anon" to post in the Contemporaries... thread but... Best of the season to you too!

                            Pastrl,
Oh, singin' eh? "Anon" wrote some great singing works, see Amalie's post for a tip there! Last work day before Christmas break, and a lovely one it is, too.

For me, it is the Symphony in d minor - #6 - Op 58 - Johann Wilhelm Wilms. Wonderful Early Romantic work by a German expatriate in Holland. Although lost for 150 years or more, these have recently been rediscovered and are well worth a listen. Mendelssohn must have heard them, I would think, or else it was something in the water

I've been listening to the Magic Flute. That takes a punch out of the stress of the Holidays.

Yes indeed, excellent choice! Am I the only one who thinks the Queen of the Night is a hottie?

For me now, it is Caucasian Sketches #1 Op 10 by Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov. Russian orchestral music at its finest!
