    On Dec. 23, 1806 -- Premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in Vienna with violin soloist Franz Clement, for whom Beethoven wrote the piece.

    Yes and it was one of only a few performances this wonderful concerto received in Beethoven's lifetime. Indeed Clementi's request for a piano version was down to the fact that he considered it to be more comercially viable.

      Interesting. Wasn't his Violin Concerto not accepted at that time? I think I heard it was years later (I'm not sure exactly when but maybe decades after his death) that this piece was played more frequently and accepted more. Why wasn't it more accepted in his time?

        Didn't Clementi interrupt the concerto with some gimmicky playing between the first and second movements? That certainly didn't help in establishing the piece.
