    In 1808 Beethoven premiered his 5th and 6th Symphonies in a 4 hour mammoth concert that also featured the Choral Fantasy and the 4th Piano Concerto.

    And let's not forget that foray into the religious with the Mass in C (I think)... I understand that the audience was kept in the cold because the theatre owners were too cheap to heat the place so close to Christmas and that one of LVB's patrons had to rush out and get food to placate a very hungry crowd sitting in the cold at a concert that may have lasted some 6 hours!

    Oh how I would have loved to have been at that concert!

      The concert lasted "only" 4 hours.
      "Is it not strange that sheep guts should hale souls out of men's bodies?"
