perhaps a dumb question...but how does authenticity relate too string instruments..aren't they basicly the same as 200 years ago...a piano I can understand developed a lot but a violin didn't did it...All I can see authentic about this performance *by this I mean all works outer piano* are the tempi and or size of orchestra...could you enlighten me on this matter?
Regards,
Ruud.
P.s loved the mp3 though

The instrument is basically the same with some adjustments to the bow and bridge, but the strings would have been gut not steel. Also the manner of playing was different - far less vibrato than is generally used.
Hello, I downloaded this song when it was put up on the webpage. It said:
"3 String Quartets Op.59
Nr 3. First movement - Introduzione, Andante con moto. Allegro vivace.
From the CD: 'Ludvig van Beethoven Streichquartette op18/4 & op59.3'. Ars Musici AM 1281-2. Schuppanzich Quartet (performing with Beethoven's string instruments)."
What is the name of the song in english? Is it just "3 String Quartets Op.59"?
Ty!

You downloaded the first movement of the string quartet Op.59nr3. There are 3 quartets in the opus 59 set and they are collectively known as the 'Razumovsky quartets'.
