Well, the man thought that his actual age was younger than his... age. So, does anybody know his approximate date of birth?

It was easy, first entry! Dec. 16, 1770. The confusion that you mention is caused by his older brother who died within a short time after birth. He was also named Ludwig. Since he was born 2 years before, OUR Ludwig always claimed that the 1770 birthday was the brother and HE was actually born in 1772. Of course this is not true, and at somepoint it is reasonable to suspect that he realized this, but it was more convenient to continue saying that he was 2 years younger. We all like to flatter ourselves! Wait til you get to be my and Ludwig's age!

Call me stupid... But most piantings of him, comparing with the year they were drawn, I do think that he was 3 - 5 years younger...

Just my opinion, but in the paintings of him where he was young, he looks younger, in the paintings where he is old, he looks older. Sort of like the years weren't kind to him. Those were hard times, illness that we laugh at today was often fatal, and it left its mark on people.

A complete sentence would help make clear what you want to know.
