On this day the 22nd of august 1862, Claude Achille Debussy the famous impressionistic composer was born in st.Germain en Laye.
He was "discovered" at the age of 9 by mme de fleurville which was a student of Chopin and she tutored him in the pianistic way.from 1873 till 1886 he studies at the parisian conservatory with Marmontel for the piano en Lavignac for musical theory,he also takes lessons with Durand musical harmony and César Auguste Franck improvisation *but he differs from opinion with franck on the harmonic issue*. his opera Pelléas et Mélisande (1893–1902)after the writings of Maeterlinck was a milestone in french music writing..He also got aquainted with gamelan music in the world-feast roundabout 1884 for which the eiffeltower was also build..This music had such an impression on Debussy that he decided to use the tonal system of the gamelan also in his music thus creating the first real impressionist music.He died in 1918 at the effects of a tumor/cancer.
