Last night I attended a memorable 'Proms' concert with Alfred Brendel's magnificent performance of Beethoven's crowining glory, the 'Emperor' concerto no. 5.
With the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Dohnanyi. ( An unforgettable evening)!
I had an excellent view of the keyboard watching Brendel play. Needless to say, he had a standing ovation!.And then he played a Schubert piece as an encore!
This was a particulary poignant evening as it was his last 'live' broadcast, but not retiring yet.
The concert opened up with a superb performance of Brahms Symphony No.3.
