    'Moonlight' corrections

I have often been puzzled by this question of Beethoven's metronome markings.
How did it come about that Carl Czerny 'corrected' some of Beethoven's markings in the Sonatas, including the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata?
I am sorry my knowledge is a bit sketchy about this and would love to know more about the background to this and whether Czerny was present at the first performances of the Sonatas with Beethoven playing.

I think he added dynamic indications in the adagio where Beethoven has none. But I prefer the piece performed without these crecendos.

Here's an article I stumbled across concerning B's metronome marks: http://members.aol.com/yudagawa/article.html
