Not to be flip, but isn't a silent film about B some sort of a great leveler? I shall get the clip tomorrow from my broadband connection. Thanks for the pointer.

    **

Sadly though, Beethoven's later world was silent.
If films had been around in B's time, I always wondered how he would have reacted to a documentary about his life, or a biopic.

This morning, at breakfast, I was listening to
Beethoven's Rondino for Piano, G major, Op.51/2. Another beautiful, dazzling Gem, deliciously played by, Alfred Brendel!

I think I shall indulge in another helping of that one!

Indeed, another helping of Brendel is better for the waistline than another helping of bagel with cream cheese I also am fond of those little rondinos, listened to them just yesterday. I suppose you will be off to Troon for the Open Championship over weekend, eh?

For me to begin this lovely day, it is the Symphony in D major, #3 - D 200 - Little Franzerl making progress yet again.

          Amalie,
I knew it was a foregone conclusion that you would be off to Arran, just not if you would be leaving today or tomorrow Fore!!
Yes, I had my proper dose of the lovely 6th the other day, and in keeping with the theme of 6th, for me it is the 6th Symphony in C major of young Franz Schubert, the "Little C major". Little or not, this is a quite inspiring piece of music. It has me wanting to go out and play golf.

Welcome back Gurn! It seems that we are all listeing to the same pieces this lovely morning. I heard the rondino which is one of my favourites and also the Beethoven's 6th (Pastoral)! We all must have the same good taste!!

              Joy,
And good it is to be back too, thanks! Yes, we are all afflicted with similar great taste it seems!
For me now though, I have worked my way through all of Schubert's symphonic oeuvre this morning, and I am on the final movement of the Great C Major - #9 - D 944 - I wonder where I shall be going from here

                    Pastorali,
Well, naughty lad, you are a great one to be talking about someone else! Singing Mozart canons indeed! And me, pure as the driven snow.

                    Amalie,
I could make guesses what she has put in my coffee, but not sure I wish to know

And right now, it is the String Quintet arrangement of the Kreutzer Sonata, performed by L'Archibudelli. Amazing balance achieved by the arranger, if one didn't know the piece so intimately one might suppose this was the original!

Wonderful Friday to you all. This morning we are starting out with the Concerto in A maor for Bassett Clarinet & Orchestra - K 622 - W. Amadé Mozart - Pretty much said all there was to say for the clarinet right there at the start, almost a pity!

Good Friday morning to you too!! It looks like there's a lot of Hadyn and Mozart out there today. How about Haydn's Symphony #89 for starters and then Mozart's Symphony #38 for lunchtime on classical radio. Also, of course, Ludwig's Piano Trio "Ghost" by the
                          Beaux Arts Trio.
Gurn, now that you have my interest you must tell us the interesting story concerning Haydn's Symphony #45?

                            Joy,
Mais certemment, mam'selle! Musicians bieng indentured servants in those days, they did as the master ordered. The Prince had decided to stay at the summer home in Esterhasz for a longer time than usual and the musicians were getting quite restive, wanting to see their homes and families. Of course they couldn't complain to the Prince, but they told Haydn. He wrote a symphony which had in its directions for the last movement that as each musician finish his part (which were phased out across the entire movement) he get up and blow out his candle for reading the music by, and leave. By the time it ends, there are very few (it sound like a violin, and oboe and a bassoon to me) left. He told the Prince it was called the "Farewell" symphony. He got the message, they packed and left the next day! Cool!

Well, I break the Classical mold then, I am listening to the Quartet in A major for Piano & Strings - #2 - Op 26 - Johannes Brahms - Lively music indeed!

For me, it is the Quintet in f minor for Piano & Strings - WoO - Cesar Franck - One of the top 5 representatives of the genre, an impressive piece of work for one of the French persuasion, n'cest pas?
