    Carlos Kleiber - RIP

Last week, Carlos Kleiber, noted conductor of some of the best-loved performances of Beethoven Symphonies, passed away in Germany and was buried in Slovenia after a long illness. It is to be regretted that he was never able to complete the entire cycle of Beethoven symphonies to go along with his tremendous 5th, 6th and 7th. One less great artist now among us.

Yes Gurn, a great loss. He will long be remembered as the one who gave us a truly great performance of the Beethoven 5th which inspired other conductors to follow him in using the tempi that Beethoven most certainly would have accepted. He will be sadly missed.

Indeed this is a sad loss. I always thought of Kleiber in the great line including Furtwangler and Toscanini.
What a performance of the Fifth!

Not much, but when you read it you see why. He never gave a single news interview! Bravo!
