This is more of what I was looking for. What are the differences, not "which is better BECAUSE of the differences".

Anyway, after the last few posts I am very interested in these symphonies. I had read in the Marcia Davenport biography of Mozart that Haydn symphonies were "nothing special" next to mozart. She may have been wrong...
She is completely wrong and obviously doesn't really know her Haydn or her Mozart because aside from a few great symphonies, Mozart's greatest achievements were in opera and the piano concerto.

For Handel, in addition to what has been said above I recomend these to begin with:

      Oratorios:
      Solomon - Gabrielli Consort/McCreesh

Israel in Egypt - Taverner Consort & Players/Andrew Parrot

Saul - McCreesh or the Naxos (Frankfurt Baroque/ Martini) release

l'Allegro, il penseroso ed il Moderato - Gardiner.

Triumph of Time & Truth - Frankfurt Baroque/ Martini, Naxos

For the miraculous OP6 concertos go for Hogwood and the Handel & Haydn Society on Decca.

      For the operas:
      Agrippina - Gardiner, Philips
      Serse - Hanover Band, DHM
Rinaldo & Giulio Cesare - Jacobs, HM
Any of the Handel opera recordings on Virgin or Erato labels
