I would say, it's quite good!
Is this Ronald Smith whose death I referred to in a recent post?

Anyway recent listening: Britten 4 sea interludes from Peter Grimes, and Debussy La Mer, Bach Brandenburg no.4 (I am inclined to Rod's view of the superiority of Handel's Concerto Grossi).

Yes. It's a Nimbus recording with Ronald Smith on piano. Recorded 1984, I guess. Very likeable!

Interesting, I only have a couple of recordings of it, but both have the same ending. I will look around to see what I can find out.

No Resphigi for me (although it sounds like a nice choice), but I do have Mozart, Quartet in C #19 K 465 "Dissonance". Juilliard Quartet.

The ending I've played is an extension of the allegretto that comes after the andante/adagio. The other ending reprises the opening measures, returning to the andante/adagio. I've seen the tempo marked both ways at the beginning and I am not sure which is most correct.

Anyone ever hear of Jaromir Weinberger? I listened to his boisterously wonderful Polka and Fugue from Schwanda the Bagpiper.

Sorry Sorrano, have not heard of Weinberger.
Good? Anyway, today it's been a Chopin kind of day. His Scherzo No. 3 Opus 39, Prelude #1 "Raindrop", and Piano Sonata No. 2 in b-Flat Opus 35 with Dmitry Paperno, piano. But as I cannot be without Beethoven for too long later this afternoon was the magnificent 5th Symphony! Love that transition from the 3rd movement to the 4th!!
          Nothing like it!

              I think
              it is a bad thing
for a person to try to
              hide their feelings about
              music, it causes mental constipation!
So tell us, how do you really feel about it?

For me, so much simpler, as befits my personality. Symphony in g minor - #40 - K 550 - W. Amade Mozart - Splendid, to borrow a phrase.

Honestly, I was so unbelievably bored! It's not just the music, also the interpretation. Can't find, it is a thrilling number.
And this morning: On TV a live performance, Berliner Philharmoniker and Peter Roesel.
                LvB, Piano Concerto #4 in G, Op.58
hmmm...also boring, yawn! and much too long, and only one piano!!!
Where is my Britney Spears collection?

This morning on the Austrian TV channel, 3SAT, there was a performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.4 in G, Op. 58. The pianist was Peter Rösel with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Claus Peter Flor. This was a performance from 1990 at the Konzerthaus Berlin.

I enjoyed hearing this concerto since I haven't heard it in years. I have the other four Beethoven piano concertos on CDs but not the 4th. I must get a copy so my Beethoven piano concerto collection will be complete. For some reason I thought that I had a copy of the 4th...I must be getting old!

We were again on the same line! Picking out the rare tv pearls, he?
Now, Mozart's wonderful Fantasia, d minor, KV396 and then the exciting D803.

In memory of Ronald Reagan I am listening to Berlioz Funeral Symphony, after which I will listen to Barber's Adagio.

Yes, I could see you were bored ;-)) Me too I guess. Perhaps I shall hear that version of the 9th one day?

                        Andrea,
I understand "old-timer's disease", but really, no 4th? At least you Central Euro types got to see it on television, it must be way too long for the attention span of American audiences. What is it, almost half an hour, eh? Why, you could program a whole sitcom + commercials in that much time... sigh.

                        King,
Yeah, me too, watched that + played the Adagio last night. Remember being introduced to that work at President Kennedy's funeral?

But right now, it is the marvelous and seldom heard Concerto in g minor - #1 - Op 26 - Max Bruch. The epitome of the Romantic Violin Concerto!

The Weinberger piece is very boisterous but I tend to like that sort of thing every now and then. This morning, Beethoven's violin concerto. Didn't catch the performers--it was early.

I haven't heard that Weinberger either. I will look it up and see if it is possible. Anyway, you can scarcely go wrong with ANY version of THE concerto, the music transcends the players.
For me, still listen to Max Bruch, although I have now advanced to his 3rd concerto, in d minor (yes, his 2nd concerto is also in d minor, confusing, no?) - Op 58. This is a true rarity, hard to understand why as it is superior to the 1st. Perhaps the cachet of being in g minor.

                                This morning it's L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2
Georges Bizet with Conductor Emmanuel Krivine and the Lyon Opera Orchestra. Very good!!
Also Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. I heard on the radio where Schubert made 1/2 dozen "Unfinished Symphonies". I did not know this. What are the other numbers? Why are so many unfinished??
Also can't be without Beethoven for long so later on it'll be his String Quartet No. 16!
