I know this is old hat, but I found this interesting article with a 1941 audiofragment of the opening theme of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, the famous 'Fate knocking at the door' had been the theme of Radio London.
In January 1941 the Belgian section of the BBC had launched its 'V' Campaign the famous V whose Morse-Code rhythm was an exact duplication of that of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony's opening theme. The idea had been adopted by Jacques Duchesne for the radio program 'Les Francias parlent aux Francias' [French speaking to French], and the association with Beethoven had been made explicit on the following 28th June thanks to the musical motif itself, used as the theme music and illustrated during the course of the program by these words by Maurice Van Moppes:-


Do not despair, We will prevail
You must not cease to resist
Do not forget the letter 'V'
Write it, Sing it: VVVV.

There are a couple of strange coincidences here. Not only is the rhythm of the opening of the C minor Symphony identical to the Morse code for V, but the letter V is itself the Roman numeral for "Five" which is, of course, the number of the symphony.
