And now, for something completely different, the Concerto in Eb for Trumpet & Orchestra by Haydn, Wynton Marsalis on the trumpet... After which, the penguin on your telly is going to explode!

I have been listening to some more incongrouos couplings.

The Pirates of Penzance by, the Hilliard Ensemble.

Aida, by the Haagen (Daas) String Quartet.

Bluebeards Castle, by Musica Antiqua of Cologne.

I'm right now listening to a Midifile.
It's a sonata for 2 B flat mayor clarinets and 1 bass clarinet which I composed myself.
the sonata itself has got A major as tonic.

I hope It is allowed to boast your own works if not I'm sorry peter

Should any of you be interested I can send you the midifiles though they sound very canny and mechanical.

          Regards Ruud

That's great, you're composing your own music! I think, it is allowed to post it, as long you feel fine with it! My thing right now (probably because I've missed it yesterday) is the 9th. Go Zinman!

Last night it was Berlioz (Davis performing the Symphonie Fantastique--incomparable!) and this morning Tan's performance of the Rule Britannia variations by LVB.

The Concerto in Eb for Piano & Orchestra - WoO 4 - LvB - Juvenilia? Perhaps, but you can hardly tell it. Good stuff.

Karajan conducting Brahms Haydn's variation and 2nd piano concerto. This is more a symphonie to me.

Just got the Casals set of Bach cello suites that Tony and others mentioned - superb - and, in the same series, a Toscanini recording of Verdi's Requiem, which a friend of mine will be singing soon with the Highgate Choral Society. Main listening today though has been the Brahms violin concerto with Isaac Stern/Zubin Mehta/ New York Phil - part of a fabulous set of the Brahms concertos (Piano 1&2 by Barenboim, Violin and cello by Zukerman and Harrell and with a couple of Rhapsodies played by Glenn Gould for good measure. I think I'm going to be busy for a while.....
