The piece was an immediate success in Ireland, but had problems at first in England when he tried to perform it as a stage work. Now you mention it is Handel's 'death day' tomorrow.

At my parish, the choir performed the Hallelujah chorus this Easter. It turned out surprisingly well for only having about five voices to a part. Truly inspiring.
