    Personally, I have no philosophical objections, I just haven't played on an electronic instrument that is nearly as satifying as a real piano. I feel the same way about pipe/electronic organs. I have played both and much prefer a simple pipe organ to an elaborate electronic.

    I do work with midi quite a bit and I love the possiblities.
    About string sounds: I think it is fairly easy to reproduce a decent note played by violin or cello. It is what happens between notes that is so very difficult to do electronically.

      It is bad, but I've been none too impressed with the notes themselves either, usually.

      I've been thinking of creating some of my own violin soundfonts trying to address some of these issues, but even with a great variety of fantastic samples you still have the transition issues, which you mentioned. I was actually thinking about writing a program that allows more freedom than the MIDI standard to deal with this, but that would be a huge undertaking and I don't have the time for that right now.
