    Many thanks Peter!

Today's piece is a CD named "Piano Sonatas" I do listen first time now.

      Schubert: P.S. D 958
      Mozart P.S. K 570
      Schumann P.S. Op.22

For the first ear, all are very nice – a good investment for about 1$
      That sounds ecxellent Pastorali!

From time to time our local library sells off some of the classical CD's for about £2.00 each. My son bought an excellent one of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.5 "Emperor", he knows I love that one, coupled with the Choral Fantasia. Sung By the Monteverdi Choir and the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique.
with Robert Levin playing an 1812 painoforte. My only reservation about the recording is that the orchestra dominates the pianoforte. On the whole I very much enjoy it.
Levin said himself that the pianoforte 'speaks' and the 'steinway' sings, and I would agree with that accurate description.

Right now we are listening to 'Castor et Pollux' by, RAMEAU. The singing is wonderful.

Franz Liszt, Symphonic tone poem. HAMLET.

Very mysterious and eerie, brilliantly depicting Hamlet's moods and turmoil and Shakespeare's classic plot to the full.

        That's my view anyway.

Gurn, you can call me unimaginative – I'm still keeping on Hüttenbrenner's Requiem. It's just too beautiful

But also surrounding Mozart. Piano Concerto #20 is my favorite of these recently bought ones. Very tasty, great music. Also Sonata K 570!

Maybe first rays of one who could be a new Mozartist...

Wish, the new week will continue your splendid sunday!

Haydn's Op.76 Quartets. Excellent! The blue print for Beethovens late quartets in many ways!! I hear Haydn in 'B' more than any other composer...

                  Pastorali,
Well, you have assembled an impressive array of good listening, I love the d minor concerto as B did, and also that sonata. I like the concerted writing that M uses, he really didn't do that too much in sonatas, I guess just to show he could. Now, if you want to really round out some great listening, I suggest you look at v russo's post and try those quartets. The one (#2) also in d minor, called "Quintens" or "Fifths" is a marvelous little piece, it joins that concerto on the list of great works that make d minor one of my favorite keys, of course the list is begun with the great 9th, so we have come full circle. Have a great week all.

Handel's Coronation Anthem (?) to King George II. Incidently, today is the anniversary of the indoor premiere of the Water Music.

The CD collection of my father fulfilled my expectations.

                      Mozart: Coronation Mass
Haydn: Missa In Tempore Belli (both James Levin)
Mozart: Requiem KV 341, John Eliot Gardiner
Haydn: Organ Masses, Harrer, Chorus Viennensis
Brahms: A German Requiem, Sir Colin Davis
                      Schubert: German Mass D. 872

Actually enyoing Mozart's Coronation Mass,...no doubt about my dad's taste.

Piano Sonata no.3 op.2-3 By Alfred Brendel..

The 2nd movement is amzaing as it's always with Beethoven's adagios and andantinos..
The 3rd have an elegant counterpoint that makes it very special..
