Trying to find a specific performance

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here can help me find a specific performance of the 9th symphony done at the barcelona olympics in 1992. I have tried to search for this on the web with no luck. We recently lost someone in our family who was really touched by this song when it was done. Any help that you could provide us in finding this either by an album we could order or a downloadable file would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I've had a look about myself and don't think you can find such a recording, if indeed it ever existed. Of course there are hundreds of other recordings of the 9th to chose from that should also jog the memories, so don't let that put you off.

      Bunky,
Are you quite sure it was the BArcelona Olympics? I vividly remeber that the Nagano Olympics ('96) had at the opening ceremony Seiji Ozawa conducting from Nagano via satellite feeds with the performers being scattered about the whole world. It was an impressive technological display, although like Rod I don't know if it was ever recorded. The only "monumental" recording that I am aware of is the one conducted by Bernstein at the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. It is not great, but truly historic.

You're right, Gurn, it was the Nagano Olympics with that very impressive feat in deed of Beethoven's Ninth, one of the most interesting and exciting performances I have seen of it. I don't there's a recording of that particular music however sometimes they do offer during the Olympic games a video of the games special moments and I'm pretty sure this one special moment would have been included. Sidenote, the Olympics always play the 'Ode to Joy' during some part of their cermonies it's tradition and has been for as long as I've been watching them.
