Did they meet. Basicly i have read from two difrent sources that they have, and they havent? So does anyone know which one is true.
I watched inmortal beloved the other night and i learnt this. A time traveling beethoven was framed and set up for killing JFK.

If you look around, you'll find at least one picture containing them greeting. I have a book here that shows one that is Schubert and a friend greeting Beethoven on a square. There's no reason to believe they didn't chat a bit.

According to Thayer, Schubert was very familiar with B's schedule for meals etc., and used to eat in the room at a few tables away and just watch and listen, but was too shy to introduce himself. Shortly before B's death Schubert came to his apartment on some type of errand and was introduced, and B made some complimentary remark about Schubert's songs. The trouble with some of these is that the source is Schindler, who was notoriously self-serving, and if he wanted to make something up, he just did. But Schubert was a torch-bearer at B's funeral, probably as a member of the Friends of Music.

And of course there is the fact that when Schubert knew he was dying, he asked to be buried near Beethoven, and was.

I wonder where ,exactly Beethoven and Schubert are buried? Are there two graves only in this"Park"? I remember Rod saying he got lost looking for Beethoven's final resting place,is it tucked away somewhere out of sight?

They are both buried in Vienna's Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery). They were originally buried in the Währinger Friedhof but in 1888 both Beethoven and Schubert's remains were removed and reburied in our Zentralfriedhof.

The original graves for Beethoven and Schubert are a bit hard to find since they are now tucked away along the back wall of this small park located behind the Währinger Friedhof.

It's in Vienna, isn't it? Andrea, can you answer this?

I have a picture, a print of a drawing or lithograph of Mozart listening to Beethoven play. But I suppose that this is not taken from life but is just a fantasy of the artist.

                  Andrea,
Are there markers at both sites?

Here's a photo of the original grave site of Beethoven and Schubert from Schubert Park, behind the Währinger Friedhof. This is a photo that Peter took when he was here on his last visit and is on his Beethoven Reference website under General 2:

Why were Beethoven and Schubert not left to rest as they were, what was the point of moving them?

                        Spaceray,
I think the reason for re-locating the graves to the Zentralfriedhof,(1888) is that the original graves fell into disrepair.
I read somewhere that Anton Bruckner was present at the exhumation of Beethoven out of morbid curiosity. Uhhhg! I can't bear the thought!
I hope Andrea will correct me if I have got it wrong.

                          They weren't decomposing where they?

Yes they were, bystanders noticed all the notes coming out backwards, that was the tipoff. ;-)
