This morning I woke up to the last 10 minutes of the Choral Fantasy. It's going to be a good day!

.This morning I woke up to some music that I was not familiar with. The brass writing reminded me of Bruckner but the music did not fit into any of the 9 symphonies. Turns out it was the number 0. I will have to give that a listen in the near future.

Aha, the so-called "Nullte" Symphony in D minor. Been a while since I last listened to this, so thanks Sorrano to your wonderful radio alarm clock !!!

What I heard sounded pretty good to me; it certainly had my attention. Isn't there another symphony in F Major that was a student work? Some years ago there was an article about a third symphony, recently discovered, that they were going to refer to it as No -1. At that point I noticed the date of the article was April 1,.

Exploring Music is all about Bruckner this week. Last night I listened to the first and third movements of the Symphony in F Minor, the student symphony. Tonight will be selections from the 2nd and 3rd symphonies.

Tchaikovsky - Hymn of the Cherubim. Wonderful music, but also the images of the interior of St.Basil's cathedral in Moscow and church of the Saviour St Petersburg are simply stunning.

                    'Man know thyself'

I heard a selection of this on the radio a while back. I would have never guessed the composer, and as a result of hearing this I had to buy a CD.It certainly deserves more exposure!

The description of the conductor reminded me of what someone said about Richard Strauss when he conducted, that one got the impression that he was about to check his watch and see if it was time to go, yet. In the meantime I think I'd better play through some circle of fifths.

                          Thanks!

Tchaikovsky symphony no.1 - I always find his early symphonies more satisfying than the early Dvorak symphonies, so I'm not sure why they are often neglected. Here is the beautiful slow movement.

Yes, and don't forget the Manfred Symphony; it deserves more attention than it gets.
