Now shock horror I'm going to be totally non PC and controversial but actually I don't particularly rate Clara Schumann (or Fanny Mendelssohn come to that) as a composer and had she been male I doubt the music would be receiving any attention today. I find her music boring, academic and derivative, devoid of originality. Talented and capable, yes but no more than your average music student.

Hah! You must have this in mind (Clara Schumann Piano Concerto in A minor): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcLtg5Ps8Rk
Makes the right moves, the right "gestures", but alas, no real surprises.

Yes I've heard her concerto and the G minor piano trio which is an attractive piece and finely crafted but no originality. A finer concerto is the 4th by Sterndale Bennett but very Mendelssohn influenced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3QR82cUsLg
