Well this is certainly sad, but not unexpected, news. What a great man Haitink was and I have many of his recordings. A life very well lived and one for which serious music-lovers are grateful.
Thanks for sharing that, Peter! My introduction to Haitink was via Bruckner's 8th Symphony, from which I measure all other Bruckner performances. That was touching.
Great man and a great Beethovian. His Beethoven symphonies with the LSO are among my favourites. I had the pleasure of seeing him as an audience member at Wigmore Hall with Murray Perahia.
