Janacek piano works

I've been listening to this after only being introduced to the piano music of Janacek comparatively recently by a friend. "On an Overgrown Path" has always been popular and yet I'm unconvinced about this music. To me it's a mixture of Grieg and Faure and a little too derivative for my tastes, though undoubtedly pleasant. "Moravian Dances" has a great deal of charm!!

I share the lack of conviction. Before the first lockdown I attended a concert of chamber music at my local conservatoire, chamber music by Dvorak and Janacek. The difference was evident: Janacek, pleasant and competent; Dvorak, inspired and moving, worlds apart. If I could listen again to the concert I could go into the technical details but too much time has passed.

Actually, I may have got that wrong, I think it was chamber music by Dvorak and Josef Suk. Scratch my commenr above about Janacek.
