    Who was Wagner's stocial friend?

I seem to recall this story in reference to Franz Liszt.

      No. Another hint:
There is one famous tune by this composer that appears in almost every fancy cocktail party in every movie ever made.

                Quite impressive Peter!

I was interested to read that Sibelius never once touched pen to music paper in the last 28 years of his life. Sibelius seemed to have made up his mind that he had nothing important to say anymore.

I thought that was in protest to the directions music was going (with the avant garde movements, etc.)

Or maybe his wife got tired of dragging him out of the inn?

                            Spaceray,

Sorry. I kind of forgot I never gave the answer.
Luigi Boccherini was the toast of Paris and elsewhere, but after moving to Madrid, his family died, nobody was interested in his music and he was as poor as a church mouse.

Wolfgang (an Austrian) was often prodded by Constanza. Could this be who you are getting at...?

Your question was a little misleading as he was more a contemporary of Haydn than Beethoven!
