1808 concert
Peter and I went to the marathon Beethoven concert at the Theater an der Wien last Sunday which recreated the famous 1808 concert. Unforgettable!
It made me wonder if any of these works were performed again in the same theatre or even in Vienna during Beethoven's lifetime. The works were 5th, 6th Symphonies, 4th Piano Concerto, concert aria "Ah Perfido", Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus from Mass in C, and (!) the Choral Fantasia.
All of which raises the more general question of which works were the most popular during his lifetime but I guess that's another thread!
