A most lovely and enjoyable piece, sublimely contrived and controlled, demonstrating Beethoven's utter flawless mastery of this chamber form.
Surely no one has ever come any where near Beethoven's Olympian heights of composition and expression.

I agree, beginning with op3 Beethoven seems to have gained an immediate grasp of the string trio, which is not the easiest of genres. The op9 set are really excellent pieces of music.

Please bear in mind that the three mp3 tracks are not a single work, but each a single movement from each of the three trios that make up Op9.

According to one of my reference books these three string trios 'are the most ambitious of the works for this combination, and at the time of their appearance, the most advances works to come from the Master's pen. Dedicating them to count von Browne, Beethoven called them the best of his works, revealing that he realized himself that their gravitiy and mastery of form set them apart. They reveal the high degree of expressiveness of which Beethoven was capable'.

Bravo and danke for this wonderful music, Rod. It helped to part the dark gray clouds over Heiligenstadt and the sun is now streaming through. Herrlich...

It seems that without the continual intervention from the mp3 page, the whole of Vienna would be perpetually overcast with grey clouds. Lo! The power of music!
