I'm afraid this prticular piece of music isn't particularly cultural...

I'm listening to an album called 'Naked' by a girl duo called Scarlet. They had one hit in the mid 90's with a song called 'Independent Love Song.' does anybody remember this? I think they're songs are extremely lyrical and beautiful.
Well, anyway, if anybody does remember that song, I'm listening to the album with it on

P.S I know I should really be sticking to classical music on this thread, but I cudn't help but put it in and I promise not to do it again!

      Regards,
      Michael.

Beethoven's Ninth, Peter Maag conducting. I came across the boxed set of the Complete Symphonies at a local store. It doesn't seem to exist among the online sources!

Listening to Brahm's violin concerto and trying to aviod comparison's with Beethoven's, but both of them are such prodigious masterpieces and occupy very much the same classical or romantic high ground that I feel comparisons are unavoidable.
Beethoven's violin concerto has a tremendous driving motif and power, but in my husbands view is topped by Brahms by the sheer dazzling virtuosity, supercharged elan, and in a sense out Beetoven's Beethoven in its forceful musical transformations and harmonies.

But personally speaking, though I do enyoy the Brahms violin concerto, I think it is a bit more showy than Beethoven's.
Beethoven has a more thrilling approach to life through his music and has more depth, he speaks to me more, but I don't mean to be unkind about the good Herr Brahms.

Is this an on-going thing? I'm now listening to Karl Boehm's 1955 recording of Missa Solemnis with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

                          Yesterday was Beethoven's String Quartet
No. 4 (radio). Today it's Bach's Orchestral Suite #3 (love that 2nd movement), and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1. All wonderful listening!

Last night: Dvorak's Cello Concerto, in a vinyl pressing from the 1950's! Gregor Piatigorsky plays cello with Eugene Ormandy leading the Philadelphia Orchestra. I can live with the rather poor sound for the great performance.
